Woman Raped, Beaten in Her Apartment

A 27-year-old woman was raped and beaten Tuesday at her apartment in the 1300 block of East Hillcrest Drive.
According to officers, the woman walked outside about 10 p.m. to throw away some trash. When she returned, a man was waiting inside her apartment. He gagged the woman and raped and hit her. The man eventually left, and the woman called 911 about midnight.
The man was described as black, 20 to 30 years old and between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 10, with a stocky build and short- to medium-length dark brown curly hair. He was wearing long, dark-colored shorts and construction boots and smelled strongly of alcohol.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to call 494-8201.
