Highlights from the 10th stage
Stage: A 91.14-mile, mostly flat stretch from Bazas to Pau at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains.
Winner: Patrice Halgand of France, in 3 hours, 15 seconds.
How others fared: Three-time defending champion Lance Armstrong finished with the main pack, nearly four minutes behind. Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano of Spain retained the overall lead, 26 seconds ahead of second-place Armstrong in the overall standings.
Quote of the day: “It’s a tragedy. A child’s death puts everything else into perspective.”--deputy Tour director Daniel Baal, after a car from the Tour convoy hit and killed a 7-year-old boy on the route.
Next stage: Today’s 11th stage takes riders 98 miles from Pau to La Mongie high in the Pyrenees.
