Liaw Eliminated at Boys’ Junior Amateur

Henry Liaw of Rowland Heights will not have a chance to defend his title in the U.S. Junior Amateur boys’ golf championships after falling to Elliott Wainwright of Hillsborough, Calif., 1-up, in the round of 16 on Friday at the Atlanta Athletic Club’s Highlands Course in Duluth, Ga.
Wainwright will play Casey Wittenberg of Memphis, who defeated Daniel Im of La Mirada in 26 holes on Friday. It was the second-longest match in tournament history.
Josh Wooding of Riverside lost in the morning’s second round, falling 2 and 1 to Tarik Can of Queens, N.Y.
