Babbitt Hired for Water Projects in Middle East

Former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt has been hired by a California water developer to head a new company tackling water projects in the Middle East.
Keith Brackpool, chief executive of Cadiz Inc. in Santa Monica, announced Monday that Babbitt will lead an unnamed subsidiary.
Babbitt, a former Arizona governor, was secretary of the Department of Interior under President Clinton. Federal agencies under his jurisdiction reviewed a Cadiz project to store and pump groundwater from a Mojave Desert aquifer along the Metropolitan Water District’s Colorado River aqueduct.
The MWD is expected to vote later this year whether to partner with Cadiz on the project, which has been slowed by environmentalists’ demands for greater scrutiny.
