Truckers Cited, Trucks Sidelined in Crackdown

Several law enforcement agencies issued 45 citations to truckers Wednesday and took three vehicles off the road during inspections at two checkpoints.
The checkpoints were at Warner Avenue and Construction Circle, and at Barranca Parkway and Construction Circle, said Irvine police spokesman Wally Prestidge.
Forty-one of the citations were for mechanical violations, such as oil leaks and faulty lights, he said. The three vehicles taken off the road had such defects as cracked frames, defective brakes and illegal tire tread depth, Prestidge said.
