AT&T; Wireless Leads ‘Portability’ Complaints

AT&T; Wireless Services Inc. has had the most complaints in the cellphone industry from customers trying to switch their cellphone numbers to and from its service, the Federal Communications Commission said.
More than half of 600 complaints that the FCC got by Monday concerned AT&T; Wireless, the regulator said. The complaints were made in the first weeks under the new “number portability” regulations, which let cellphone customers take their phone number to a different service provider.
AT&T; Wireless has acknowledged that it was having difficulties, blaming it on a software glitch.
On Tuesday, the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier said it was now matching its rivals’ speed in switching customers.
AT&T; Wireless stock fell 22 cents to $7.01 on the NYSE.
