Serving up a starry selection
When people think hot dogs in this town, they think Pink’s. And with its 21 varieties, this Hollywood stand has something for everybody, as you can tell from the line stretching down the block. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the new Ozzy Osbourne dog, topped with onions, guacamole, tomatoes and several cheeses. The Martha Stewart includes sauerkraut, bacon and sour cream. Pink’s sells only steamed all-beef hot dogs. (Classic steamed dog, 7-inch, $2.40; 10-inch, $2.85; Ozzy Osbourne, $4.95; Martha Stewart, $4.30.)
Pink’s, 709 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 931-4223.
On sale, it’s the shopper’s special
Costco says it’s sold enough hot dogs during the last 18 years to circle the world twice. The half-pound, all-beef Hebrew National dogs are served in a fluffy, steamed sesame bun, to which you can add onions, relish, mustard (Gulden’s or French’s) or ketchup, or even request a free side of sauerkraut. (Hot dog, $1.50 plus drink.)

Both Carney’s locations are converted railway cars. Their dogs come either grilled or steamed, and for an extra charge you can top them with sauerkraut or chili as well as the usual onions, relish and mustard (yellow or spicy brown). (Hot dogs, $2.05 to $2.65.)
