SBC Communications Inc., the nation’s second-biggest provider of local phone service, has gained support from regulators in Michigan and Wisconsin in its effort to get federal permission to offer long-distance telephone service in those states.
The Michigan Public Service Commission told the Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday that San Antonio-based SBC has met the requirements for selling long-distance service in the state.
Separately, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission recommended Wednesday that the FCC allow the SBC Wisconsin operation to provide long-distance telephone service there.
SBC shares fell 37 cents to $26.23 on the NYSE.
