Warming Climate Could Spell End to Small Crabs

If the Earth’s climate continues to warm up as predicted, some crab species along the Pacific coast may face extinction.
A study in the journal Science shows that small crabs living just off the beach in warmer waters have little tolerance for rising temperatures. Marine biologist Jonathon H. Stillman of Stanford University tested four species found in the shallow waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Stillman said the experiment suggests that if the world climate warms over the next century by 4 to 6 degrees, the small crabs “will be in real trouble.”
