A workers’ compensation appeals board has rejected an appeal by Kern County of a judge’s order to pay $284,000 to the family of a county supervisor after the family claimed job stress caused his death.
Becky Peterson filed a workers’ comp claim with the county last year after her husband, Ken, died June 23 of a heart attack at 52. She said his job as an elected supervisor for nearly a decade contributed to his death.
The county appealed a judge’s June 5 ruling to award Peterson $160,000 plus $490 a week for her three children.
