“Identity,” HBO’s new series “Carnivale”
“I’m watching anything on HBO, but I must admit my favorite TV show was ‘Soap’ [1977-81]. The characters and relationships on that show were rich and the show dealt with a lot of ideas that were revolutionary for the time. I love comedy, so now my favorite is ‘The Simpsons.’ I can’t believe it’s still funny after so many years. And I love ‘The Bill Cosby Show,’ and Lisa Kudrow is the best of ‘Friends.’
But you know what I don’t like on TV? Beer commercials.”

Don Rickles
Comedian
“There’ve been so many great TV shows. But I’ve got to tell you, I loved doing the ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.’ His was a show that people talked about for a long time.
Now, I watch CNN, to keep up with what’s going on in the world, Dodger baseball, the Lakers and MSNBC. I rarely watch the half-hour sitcoms. My work, the Dodgers, the Lakers take up so much of my time. Of course, if I had a show, it’d be about me. It’d probably be some kind of variety format so I could show all of my wares -- of course, I’ve got trouble getting off of the couch now, so I don’t know.

“24,” Showtime’s movie “The Incredible Mrs. Richie”
“Actually I don’t have a television -- believe it or not -- so my television viewing is determined by what I can get in my hotel room when I’m on location. I have a passion for shows that are unapologetically campy, like “V.I.P.” I could also spend part of my life watching music videos in a drooling trance -- maybe that’s the best reason that I don’t have a TV at home! Well, no -- maybe it’s the screamingly loud commercials. I hate those. Of course, I have a son in elementary school, so one day he may demand we get a TV, but I’m going to hold out as long as I can -- any day now, he’s going to start thinking that I’m freaky.”
