No Place for Politicians in Dixie Chicks Debate

Re: “Senators Scold Radio Chain for Tuning Out Dixie Chicks” (July 9):
I embraced the Chicks early on because their music seemed like a breath of fresh air compared with the usual Nashville drivel heard on country radio. However, lead singer Natalie Maines grossly underestimated the patriotic nature of her fan base, especially after 9/11.
To make matters worse, by calling her fans “rednecks” in her so-called apology, she insulted the very demographic who buys her music -- the conservative country music listener.
Why do we need politicians getting involved? Let Cumulus Media and the public boycott whomever they want. I’ll still buy good music when I hear it.
