Southern Baptist Drive to Change Homosexuals
- Share via
Re “Baptist Body Says Gays Can Turn Straight,” June 18: I am the 35-year-old son of an Assembly of God preacher. When I was 11, I realized that I had homosexual tendencies. I faced it head-on. I went to God. I went to the altar at every church service. For the next seven years I cried and prayed for hours at church. I cried and prayed for hours at home, begging God to change me. Why did he not? I had accepted Jesus as my savior. I was baptized in water and the Holy Spirit.
At 18 I had enough anguish. I decided to commit suicide. I took a knife from the kitchen and went into my room. There God spoke to me. He made me realize I was not the one who needed to change.

So the Southern Baptist Convention has announced that gays can become straight if they accept Jesus. Next these science-ignoring scholars will announce that left-handers can become right-handers and the world is really flat. No wonder the conservative Christian government we presently seem to have is leading us into the past.
