Field of Eight in Ashment

Your First Moon, who won the Governors Cup Futurity and the Los Alamitos Million in 2001, will try for her second win of the year in the $27,000 Ivan Ashment Handicap tonight.

The 400-yard race lured seven other older mares, but Your First Moon is easily the most accomplished.

Owned by Vessels Stallion Farm and trained by Danny Cardoza, the 4-year-old First Down Dash mare won six of nine as a 2-year-old, but has run only twice since her 13-1 upset in the Million on Dec. 15, 2001.

She was fourth as the 3-5 favorite in her only race of 2002, then made a successful comeback at 4-5 in an allowance race on Feb 1.

If Your First Moon is going to add to her $725,000-plus bankroll, she will have to beat the Paul Jones-trained duo of Inthetwinkleofaneye and Crashin Bac, along with Sammies White Chick, Cha Ching Chic, Coupers First Dash, Sables Dash and Pure Rhythm.

The picks: 1. Maria Ferrante. 2. Mean Gene. 3. Snow Me. 4. Lp Josey. 5. Musical Lady. 6. Quanah Cartel. 7. Big Mouth. 8. Don Jose Davalos. 9. Your First Moon. 10. Chasen Moms Dream.
