A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was shot and wounded Friday at a Moreno Valley home where a man was threatening to commit suicide, authorities said.
The deputy’s forearm injury was not considered life-threatening, according to a sheriff’s spokeswoman. The officer was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a unidentified male and were still trying to determine if the dep- uty was shot by the man or hit by a stray bullet from another officer.
Four deputies and two sergeants responded to reports that a man inside a house in the 13000 block of Oak Dell Street was threatening sui- cide.
After deputies attempted talking to the man, he emerged with a weapon from a door at the side of the single-story duplex, spokeswoman Shelley Kennedy-Smith said.
“A verbal exchange ensued, shots were fired and the subject retreated back inside the home,” Kennedy-Smith said.
She said it was believed the man was carrying a semi-automatic weapon, but that investigators had not recovered the firearm as of late Friday.
