U.S. Ground Forces Leave War-Torn Nation

U.S. military planes and helicopters carried the last U.S. ground forces out of war-ruined Liberia. About 30 members of a liaison team flew out of Monrovia, ending their work with a peace mission.
The presence of the U.S. troops helped drive President Charles Taylor into exile, clearing the way for a power-sharing deal with rebels.
