Highland Mayor, 2 Councilmen Facing Recall

Gov. Gray Davis has company.
The Highland City Council voted 4 to 1 on Tuesday to set a recall election for the mayor and two councilmen in the community next to San Bernardino, 70 miles east of Los Angeles.
The election date, probably in December or January, will be set at the council’s Sept. 23 meeting.
Recall proponents turned in petitions Aug. 21 and the city clerk certified them Tuesday.
Mayor Ray Rucker and council members Steve Graves and Brad Sundquist were targeted for recall because of allegations that they have mismanaged city finances, violated the state’s open-meeting law and refused to move forward on construction of a fire station on the western side of the city.
Highland voters will be asked two questions about each of the three politicians: Should he be removed from office, and if so, who should replace him?
