Underage Drinking

Re “U.S. Must Battle Teen Drinking, Academy Says,” Sept. 10: Yes, underage drinking is a problem, but “steep increases in taxes on beer” will not curtail the problem. Underage drinkers obtain their beverages from retailers (who illegally sell to them), from adults (usually a relative), or they “steal” it (usually from their own home). These three activities will not be reduced by adding more taxes to beer.
