Why Quit, Governor?

Re “N.J. Governor Quits Over Gay Affair,” Aug. 13: Is Gov. James E. McGreevey apologizing for just having an extramarital affair or having an extramarital affair with a man? His resignation is a stupid move and sends a bad message. There is no correlation between having an extramarital affair (with a person of either gender) and one’s performance on the job; who knows, it may even enhance it. Such conduct affects the spouses, not the constituents. When is this country going to grow up? Did we learn nothing from the Clinton-Lewinsky debacle?
