From Times Staff Reports
Ventura County Sheriff Bob Brooks said Friday that he has extended the early release program at the main jail in Ventura because of ongoing overcrowding.
Brooks blames the overcrowding on a lack of funding by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.
That has forced him to close the women’s jail in Ojai and move those inmates to Ventura, he said.
That jail has capacity for 200 female inmates and 1,400 men.
As of Friday afternoon, there were 206 female inmates and 1,381 male inmates, authorities said.
