The older you are, the more you can save on a hotel special that gives travelers a 1% birthday discount for every year of their age.

The discount is good at Moonstone Inns, a 14-inn California/Oregon chain. Anyone celebrat- ing a birthday during the month of the stay re- ceives the discount Sundays through Thursdays until June 30.

Here’s how it works: A visitor celebrating a 50th birthday, for example, would receive a 50% discount. Because the discount is applied to high-season rates, it’s good to check each hotel for other specials to make sure you receive the lowest rate.

The inns are Cambria Pines Lodge, Sea Otter Inn, Cypress Cove Inn, Sand Pebbles Inn, Fog Catcher Inn, Pelican Suites, Blue Dolphin Inn and Creekside Inn, all in Cambria; Sea Coast Lodge, San Simeon; Monterey Hotel, Monterey; Apple Tree Inn near Yosemite National Park; Carmel River Inn, Carmel; La Mancha Private Villas and Spa Resort, Palm Springs; and Village Green Resort, Cottage Grove, Ore.
