An off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed when fire broke out in his home east of San Diego.
The body of Michael Delaney, a supervisory Border Patrol agent, was found near a bedroom mattress, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The cause of Monday’s fire has not been determined, but it could have been caused by an electric heater or a cigarette, arson investigator Conrad Grayson said.
Delaney, a 16-year veteran of the Border Patrol, began his career at the Imperial Beach station and later became part of the Bike Patrol unit.
