Artists sign up to help Escovedo

Los Lobos, Jackson Browne and Billy Corgan are adding their names to the list of pop musicians contributing songs to “Por Vida,” a double album that will benefit ailing singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo.
Others already in on the album, due in April, include John Cale, the Jayhawks, Peter Case, Ian Hunter, the artist’s brother Pete Escovedo and his niece, Sheila E.
Escovedo is being treated for hepatitis C, the disease responsible for his collapse and hospitalization last April after a performance in Phoenix. Several performers also have staged benefit concerts to help Escovedo, who has no insurance, pay his medical bills.
Escovedo, who grew up in Orange County, continues to recuperate at his home in Canyon Lake, Texas.
