A Disservice to Forests
Re “Speak Up for the Forest,” editorial, May 18: Our local forests are the last big natural open spaces in our region. Why isn’t the U.S. Forest Service doing more to protect them from harm? Protecting wilderness, closing roads that pollute local creeks and restoring wildlife habitat are far more important than allowing more noisy dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles and more new roads. The Forest Service proposal is a mistake that shortchanges future generations and misses an opportunity to restore our forests so that we can all take pride in them.
