Death Sentence in 2001 Slaying of Journalists
- Share via
An Afghan court sentenced a man to death for the November 2001 killing of three foreign journalists and an Afghan colleague who were pulled from their cars, robbed and shot. The court also convicted Reza Khan of raping one of them, an Italian reporter, before she was killed.
Armed men stopped the journalists as they drove from the eastern city of Jalalabad to Kabul, six days after the Taliban abandoned the capital.
The four were Australian cameraman Harry Burton, Afghan photographer Azizullah Haidari, Italian reporter Maria Grazia Cutuli and Spanish journalist Julio Fuentes.
