Lewis Leads Texas A&M; Past Clemson, 27-6

Courtney Lewis rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns and Reggie McNeal added 307 total yards, leading Texas A&M; to a surprising 27-6 rout of Clemson on Saturday night at College Station, Texas.

Thought to be a contender for the ACC title this season, Clemson (1-2) took its second straight loss against an unranked team. The Tigers were ranked No. 20 before last week’s loss to Georgia Tech.

The Aggies (2-1) hounded Clemson quarterback Charlie Whitehurst into one of his worst performances. Whitehurst, the ACC’s leading passer, completed 20 of 36 passes for 192 yards with three interceptions and a touchdown. He was sacked five times by the Aggies.

Texas Tech 70, Texas Christian 35 -- Sonny Cumbie threw for 441 yards and four touchdowns and Taurean Henderson ran for three more at Lubbock to lead Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders (2-1) scored on five straight possessions after trailing TCU (2-1), 21-0, in the second quarter.

Missouri 48, Ball St. 0 -- The Tigers (2-1) scored four touchdowns in the second quarter at Columbia, Mo. Ball State (0-3) managed only seven first downs.

Oklahoma State 59, Southern Methodist 7 -- Donovan Woods threw two touchdown passes and ran for another and Vernand Morency rushed for 116 yards to lead the Cowboys (3-0) at Stillwater, Okla.

Southern Methodist (0-3) lost its 15th straight game.

Colorado 52, North Texas 21 -- Bobby Purify ran for 112 yards and three touchdowns for the Buffaloes (3-0) at Boulder, Colo.

Third-string tailback Jamario Thomas of North Texas (0-3) rushed for 247 yards.

Kansas St. 40, Louisiana Lafayette 20 -- Darren Sproles rushed for a Wildcat-record 292 yards in 38 carries at Manhattan, Kan. Sproles shredded the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-2) for 195 yards in 23 carries as the Wildcats (2-1) took a 20-7 halftime lead.

Iowa State 48, Northern Illinois 41 -- The Cyclones (2-1) scored 28 straight points to erase a 14-point second-half deficit at Ames, Iowa. Northern Illinois (1-2) had come from 13 down in the first half to take the lead.
