Emmys make room for Danny Thomas with a Bob Hope Humanitarian Award

Danny Thomas and Bob Hope, names that evoke a TV era of gentle jokes and rabbit-ear antennas, were paired Sunday as Thomas was posthumously awarded the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
Thomas, who died in 1991, starred in the 1953-64 comedy series “Make Room for Daddy,” which was based loosely on his life and dealt with an entertainer’s attempts to spend time with his family. He was also known as a dedicated supporter of charitable causes. Marlo Thomas, star of the 1966-71 series “That Girl,” accepted the award.
