US Airways Unions Balk at 23% Pay Cut

US Airways Group Inc. unions balked at the carrier’s request for immediate concessions including 23% pay cuts, even after the company said it would ask a Bankruptcy Court judge to impose the changes today.
The union for customer service and reservation agents said on its website that it met with US Airways to try to “lessen these drastic cuts.” Also, the Assn. of Flight Attendants called the concession request “excessive and inequitable,” and the union for mechanics said it wanted to independently assess the need for such changes.
The Arlington, Va.-based carrier, which filed for bankruptcy protection Sept. 12, said it needed to conserve cash.
