It All Adds Up to a Frustrating Season

Times Staff Writer

Braylon Edwards, the rookie receiver for the Cleveland Browns from Michigan, had his best game of the season Sunday in a 20-14 loss to Jacksonville. He caught five passes for 86 yards, scoring both of the Browns’ touchdowns on receptions of 34 and 17 yards.

But Edwards tore a knee ligament trying to make a leaping catch in the fourth quarter and will sit out the rest of the season.

It had already been a tough season for Edwards, who a couple of weeks ago complained about his lack of involvement in the Browns’ offense.

Appearing on FSN’s “Best Damn Sports Show Period,” Edwards said, “I haven’t been allowed to do what I’ve been drafted to do. I feel like I got redshirted.... When plays need to be made, and you draft a guy to make plays, it’s kind of like one plus one equals two, not one plus three equals five.”

Nice to see it paid off for Edwards to attend math classes in college.

Possible solution: Rodney Peete of the “Best Damn Sports Show Period” listened to Edwards’ complaints, and then offered this:

“I’ve got a tip for you. I used to play quarterback and what always helped me in getting my receivers the ball was a little cash every now and then.”

It was Jamison’s second 51-point performance in four days, and was then Bryant’s career high. It now is 56 against Memphis in 2002.
