Conyers’ Wife Accused of Being in a Bar Fight

The wife of Democratic U.S. Rep. John Conyers Jr. has been accused of punching a woman in the eye during a bar fight in Detroit.
A spokesman for Monica Conyers, a city councilwoman-elect, confirmed that she was involved in an altercation. But the spokesman said Conyers merely defended herself after being attacked by another woman.
Sam Riddle, Conyers’ chief of staff, said Rebecca Mews became upset Tuesday at a birthday party for her date.
While Conyers was speaking with the man, Mews shoved Conyers, Riddle said. Mews did not return a call seeking comment.
