I am -- or was -- a longtime horse-racing fan. But after reading T.J. Simers’ March 6 column [“His Outlook Leaves Bitter Taste of Old Milkshake”], I’ll never bet on a horse again. Trainer Jeff Mullins has convinced me that it is stupid to wager on the ponies.
Thanks to Mr. Mullins for opening my eyes -- and keeping my wallet closed.

I’ve been following the ponies in The Times since the days of Bob Hebert and Bion Abbott. Now, thanks to T.J. Simers, I know why I’ve lost thousands at the track in the last four decades. I’m never going back. I owe T.J. a milkshake (at Baskin-Robbins)!
