A sheriff’s deputy shot a man in the leg early Sunday in unincorporated Valinda after the man allegedly pointed a gun at him, authorities said.
Deputies at the sheriff’s station in the City of Industry responded to a call of shots fired at 1:22 a.m. near Blackwood Street and Aldgate Avenue, said Deputy Steve Suzuki. The deputies said they saw two men getting out of a parked car and that one was holding a handgun.
The men ran in different directions and deputies blocked off the area, Suzuki said. One of the men, who was hiding in a bush in a backyard, stood up and allegedly pointed a gun at one deputy.
“The deputy fired his duty weapon, striking the man in the leg,” Suzuki said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was in stable condition.
Deputies found the other suspect hiding in another backyard with the help of a police dog. That man was treated at a nearby hospital for a minor dog bite and released.
Both men were booked on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer with a deadly weapon.
