Putting on the ritz -- at our expense

WHAT makes author Irene Woodbury think that any savvy traveler would squander $65 per person on a cup of tea and finger sandwiches? [“Come to Tea. Darjeeling, Dahling?” Postcard From Britain, Oct. 23]? This is surely decadence of an extreme nature.
I returned recently from a three-week trip to England to visit my family. I was horrified at the prices charged for food all over the country.
If England needs tourists, it will have to take the poor rate of exchange into account.
Charging such prices for tea at the Ritz and other expensive tea rooms is downright outrageous.
