City Sues Transit Agency Over Alleged Pollution

The city attorney’s office filed charges Tuesday against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, alleging the county agency has illegally discharged pollutants into city storm drains.
Prosecutors charged the MTA with nine counts of violating the California Water Code. Each count, if proved, carries a penalty of between $5,000 and $25,000. Arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 16.
Prosecutors allege the MTA’s Vermont/Beverly Metro station exceeded acceptable limits for such substances as zinc, copper and selenium.
