Killer of Backpackers Captured, Imprisoned

A former Khmer Rouge field commander, convicted in absentia of the murder of three Western backpackers in 1994, was caught in northwestern Cambodia and began serving his life sentence, the government said.
Authorities seized Chhouk Rin on Tuesday in a village where he had fled after losing his appeal in February, Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak said. He was found guilty of killing David Wilson of Australia, Jean-Michel Braquet of France and Mark Slater of Britain.
