Putting China to work

Re “Let the state pay,” editorial, Oct. 25
In your editorial, you state that more contact with China “can only lead to more trade and more jobs.” Yes, for China. The U.S. has a monthly trade deficit with China of more than $15 billion. That is a net loss of $15 billion per month. Were we to cut trade with China, we would suddenly have $15 billion more per month to spend here in the U.S.
I’m reminded of the businessman who, upon hearing that he is losing $1 per unit of his product that he sells, replies, “That’s OK. We’ll make it up in volume.”
