Rambus Stock Up After Ruling on Patent Case

From Bloomberg News

Rambus Inc. shares rose 20% after a judge ruled that the company can proceed with a patent infringement lawsuit against Hynix Semiconductor Inc.

U.S. District Judge Ronald Whyte rejected Hynix’s bid Wednesday to dismiss the case on grounds Rambus destroyed documents as part of its strategy to file patent suits against memory-chip manufacturers.

Rambus, which designs memory chips made by other companies, is suing the three largest manufacturers in the $26-billion industry. It wants them to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties for patents that Rambus says cover fundamental aspects of the chips.
