Driver Hits Pole, Dies After Trying to Avoid Car

A 17-year-old was killed early Saturday when the compact he was driving swerved to avoid another car and struck a traffic signal pole, police said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was traveling west on Chapman Avenue about 7:15 a.m. when another car, possibly a white compact, entered the intersection at Berkeley Avenue and caused him to run off the road, said Fullerton Police Sgt. T. Kim.
The victim was dead at the scene, authorities said, and his juvenile passenger was treated at St. Jude Medical Center and released.
Police are seeking the driver of the second car who fled.
