Targeting gun violence

Re “Gangs Cling to Westside Haunts,” July 19
The fatal gun attacks on three Westside high school students remind us that there is an unacceptable number of firearms in our community. Westside, Eastside, no area of L.A. County is immune from gun violence. Although California has among the toughest gun laws in the country, there are no walls around our state. Illegal firearms pour in and are sold on our streets.
For the last decade, Women Against Gun Violence has worked to educate and advocate on the issue of sensible gun laws and gun safety. This article should serve as a wake-up call to Westsiders who believe that gun violence happens somewhere else. It doesn’t, it happens here, to our children and to our neighbors’ children.
