An elderly woman was found dead and her husband was missing Tuesday night after a fire badly damaged their Brentwood-area home, authorities said.
Eighty-five Los Angeles city firefighters fought the blaze, which broke out in a hilly neighborhood in the 1300 block of North Kenter Avenue about 8:30 p.m. It was largely extinguished within half an hour but caused major damage to the home.
It had not been determined as of late Tuesday whether the woman was killed by the fire or had died earlier. The family dog also was found dead in the home.
Arson investigators have begun reviewing the incident.
No injuries to firefighters were reported.
