Sunday Games Monopolize TV Ratings in San Diego

More than 75% of the people in San Diego watching television for much of Sunday night were watching the Chargers or Padres.
The Chargers’ 23-13 comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on NBC got a 27.5 rating in San Diego with a 42 share of the audience. The Padres’ 6-2 playoff loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Fox got a 17.2/34.
The share represents the percentage of households where television is being watched at the time; the rating represents the percentage of all television households.
Nationally, the football game beat the baseball game, 9.6/15 to 5.5/18. In Los Angeles, football won, 8.6/16 to 5.6/11. The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys on Fox drew the highest football rating in L.A. Sunday with an 8.7/21. Second was a 7.5/21 for the Washington Redskins and New York Giants on Fox. The winless Oakland Raiders, who lost to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, got only a 4.4/11 on CBS.
