Authorities Thursday were searching for a man who raped and nearly strangled an 18-year-old motel employee at the facility the day before.
“It ... happened in broad daylight,” sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said of the attack at the Ramona Motel on Beach Boulevard about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The woman, a laundry service operator, was in the laundry room when the man approached and grabbed her throat with such force that it caused her to lose consciousness, Amormino said. He then raped her, causing facial and neck injuries.
The woman was in fair condition, he said.
