Castro May Miss Event for Visiting Leaders

Cuba’s foreign minister said it was not certain that Fidel Castro would play host at a dinner scheduled Friday for visiting leaders, raising doubts whether the ailing president would make his first public appearance since undergoing surgery in July.
The schedule sent by the government to international media had included Castro as host of the event, part of the nonaligned movement summit in Havana.
Though Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque could not confirm Castro’s participation, he said “Fidel is recovering satisfactorily; the worst has been left behind.”
