It’s tough enough facing narcotics charges in federal court. Try facing a jury in New York as a defendant nicknamed “Taliban.”
The indictment of D’Angelo Nunez, who goes on trial today, gives his alias as “Taliban.”
“I couldn’t think of a worse nickname, and I couldn’t think of a worse place to try this case with that particular nickname,” his lawyer complained.
The trial has nothing to do with terrorism. Nunez faces a conspiracy charge accusing him of plotting to steal drugs and money from drug dealers by posing as law enforcement officers.
