Vote Eastwood

THE best director of the year is supposed to get the Oscar. It is not a consolation prize for past neglect of deserved honors [“Dear Academy: Give Scorsese His Due,” by Patrick Goldstein, Jan. 24]. “The Departed” is a good film but not Martin Scorsese’s best, nor is it the best of this season.
I, for one, hope the academy looks to a director who, in this time of crisis in our country, has chosen to hold a mirror up for all to see the truth: Clint Eastwood.
So what if he’s won before? It’s about the best director of the year, remember?
