Eighteen people were killed this morning when a bomb exploded next to a Revolutionary Guard bus in the southeastern city of Zahedan, Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
Other news agencies put the toll lower, and an official in the area said the exact number killed was not clear.
The bomb was hidden in a car and exploded as the bus passed by, the news agency reported. It was not clear whether those killed were members of the Revolutionary Guard.
Two arrests were reported.
Zahedan is close to the border with Pakistan and Afghanistan. There are often clashes in the area between security forces and armed groups involved in the drug trade.
