Striking Red Cross blood collectors will return

Southern California’s 270 Red Cross blood collectors, on strike since Monday, will return to work Friday, their union said.
Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union has scheduled a rally for 4 p.m. today outside the regional headquarters of American Red Cross Blood Services in Pomona. The workers, who include nurses and medical technicians, decided to strike because of Red Cross’ failure to meet their demands for increased staffing at collection sites and blood drives.
The union’s three-year contract expired this spring, and talks broke down last week.
