DEFENDING PALM TREES

Palm trees are not “ugly, nonnative blights on the landscape” [Letters, April 17]. The Washingtonia filifera is a palm native to the Southwest, including Southern California, and provides a habitat for native wildlife. Take away the palms and you take away the ambience.
