Two contests hand out prizes

Ukrainian pianist Mariya Kim, 26, and Philadelphia soprano Angela Meade, 30, took top honors at the Second Annual Jose Iturbi International Music Competition finals over the weekend at UCLA.
Kim and Meade each won $50,000 and a recital aboard the Cunard line’s Queen Mary 2 in April.
Russian pianist Anastasia Markina, 29, and baritone Andrew Garland, 31, from Kingston, Mass., won $25,000 second-place awards.
Across town, the jury of the Third Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition and Festival, which concluded Sunday at Walt Disney Concert Hall, decided not to award a first prize of $30,000.
Artem Abashev, 25, from Russia, won the $20,000 second prize. British pianist Fazliddin Husanov, 30, took the $15,000 third prize.
