at Illinois 20, Louisiana Lafayette 17: The Illini didn’t put the game away until Garrett Edwards recovered an onside kick attempt by the Ragin’ Cajuns (0-2) with less than 20 seconds left at Champaign. Illinois (2-1) totaled 341 yards of offense against a defense that, in its only other game, gave up 633 yards to Southern Mississippi.
at Minnesota 35, Montana State 23: Eric Decker had nine catches for 157 yards and a touchdown to lead the sluggish Gophers (3-0) at Minneapolis. Freshman DeLeon Eskridge rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns, replacing starter Duane Bennett, who tore his ACL in last week’s victory over Bowling Green.
at Iowa 17, Iowa State 5: Shonn Greene ran for 120 yards and a touchdown and Andy Brodell returned a fourth-quarter punt 81 yards for a score at Iowa City as the Hawkeyes (3-0) earned their third consecutive home win over the Cyclones (2-1). The Hawkeyes survived wet and windy conditions and kept their opponent out of the end zone for the third straight game.
at Northwestern 33, Southern Illinois 7: Tyrell Sutton ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns at Evanston, Ill. Sutton had 17 carries, scoring on runs of 44, two and 15 yards. The Wildcats (3-0) scored 27 unanswered points in a game that was played in a steady rain that flooded streets near Ryan Field.
at Michigan State 17, Florida Atlantic 0: Javon Ringer splashed his way to a career highs of 282 yards rushing in 43 carries and scored two touchdowns in nearly constant rain at East Lansing to lead the Spartans (2-1). Ringer’s 282-yard day ranks fourth in school history.
